Who is Emeli?

Emeli Sandé was born in Alford, in Aberdeenshire, Scotland to a Zambian father and English mother on March 10, 1987. She studied Medicine at the University of Glasgow, but stopped in her fourth year. She said that education was one of the most important things to her, stating that if her music career failed, she has education to fall back on. The singer has returned to the top of the charts with album ‘Our Version of Events’

Emeli Sande looks set to end a busy year by claiming the sought after Christmas number one spot with debut album ‘Our Version of Events.’

The platinum selling record was reissued in October featuring several new tracks – just eight months on from its initial release in February – and is tipped to hold on to the number one spot after returning to the top of the mid-week album chart.

Sales have increased over the course of the year following a string of high profile appearances – including notable performances at the Olympics Opening Ceremony, the X Factor Final and The Sports Personality of the Year Awards on Monday evening, where she performed latest single ‘Clown.’

Nearest rival Olly Murs remains number two with third album ‘Right Place Right Time,’ while Canadian crooner Michael Buble hangs at three with seasonal album ‘Christmas.’

Elsewhere The Justice Collective – featuring vocals from Robbie Williams and Sir Paul McCartney – look set to claim the Top 40 number one slot over Christmas with Hillsbrough charity single ‘He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother.’

The track – originally released by The Hollies in 1969 – is currently ahead of X Factor winner James Arthur’s debut single ‘Impossible’ by 3,400 copies, while will.i.am remains at number three with Britney Spears collaboration ‘Scream & Shout.’

Away from the top ten YouTube sensation Alex Day is a new entry at number 12 with ‘Stupid Stupid,’ while Ellie Goulding makes an appearance at number 30 with latest cut ‘Figure 8.’

X Factor reject One Pound Fish Man also climbs into the top 40 with ‘One Pound Fish.’
