Who is Emeli?

Emeli Sandé was born in Alford, in Aberdeenshire, Scotland to a Zambian father and English mother on March 10, 1987. She studied Medicine at the University of Glasgow, but stopped in her fourth year. She said that education was one of the most important things to her, stating that if her music career failed, she has education to fall back on. The first song she wrote in was called "Tomorrow Starts Again". Richard Blackwood also had her down to MTV's Camden studios to sing gospel.

Emeli Sande Plans Kendrick Lamar Collaboration

Yesterday it was confirmed by Just Jared and Emeli’s label (via Twitter) that at the end of this month (February) Emeli plans to release a remix of ‘Next To me’ featuring Kendrick Lamar.

This is great news and will only help Emeli with breaking America. Kendrick is currently a very in-demand artist in America. I cannot wait to hear this remix, it should be great!

While she already has a large niche fan base, you may not know who Emeli Sande is yet, and that is why she is this week’s pick for JustJared.com and KIIS FM 102.7‘s JJ Music Monday!

The 25-year-old British singer just had a huge weekend being introduced to the U.S. music industry at parties celebrating the 2013 Grammy Awards.

Emeli performed at the Universal Party on Saturday (February 9), created huge buzz at Clive Davis‘ annual party later that night (pictured below), and now she has a remix version of her song “Next to Me” featuring Kendrick Lamar coming out later this month!
